About the Conference
Background
Debates on the future of livestock farming are often polarized between highly efficient animal production in closed-barn systems and societal claims for an end of animal farming altogether. Both extremes disconnect animals from balanced and holistic production systems. Organic livestock husbandry unites sustainability and ethics based on integrative systems and ethical values, providing a clear role and respect for the animal. As organic movements, we need a unified voice to contribute our perspective to these global debates. In this conference we plan to do just that – to meet, advance bold declarations on our positions, and draft roadmaps for the sustainable future of global animal husbandry. Interested? We hope so!
Target audience
We invite practitioners, researchers, association members, advisors, as well as interested consumers, supply chain actors and policymakers engaged in organic livestock from all continents to this three-day strategic visioning conference.
Venue
The conference will be held at the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL in Frick, Switzerland.
Conference format
The IAHA 2025 conference will use an innovative format to seek answers from the organic movement worldwide to the central questions and challenges concerning global animal husbandry. Conference sessions and workshops will be discussion-based, and we therefore invite contributions in the form of essays, as well as scientific contributions in the form of posters. We particularly welcome the perspectives of non-scientists. Each session will begin with oral presentations by selected contributors and conclude with a broader discussion that is open to all participants.
